Originally released on cassette in an edition of 1, then reissued on CD-R and distributed exclusively at a performance on July 22nd 2012, and finally once again on cassette by Sacred Altar in 2014 with a much larger, more widely available run of 3 copies in handmade vellum packaging. Recorded November 17th, 18th, and 19th, 2011 and presented completely unmixed.

In the Shadow of Mt. Diablo's Eternal Gloom is the first full length in the Ambersmoke catalog and is made up of mostly older sketches that had been played live or privately in the past year but had not yet been recorded. A number of these songs would be live staples over the following year with some of the black metal influenced pieces having been considered for inclusion at an early duo set with a drummer in 2013.

One copy was initially produced to stoke possible label interest and despite some contact, nothing was to come of it and Ambersmoke would disappear from the public for over half a year.
